How The Criminals Use Memory Loss And Confabulation To Rebuild The Minds Of Their victim's

If you read my book "Breathing Evil: Agent of Fear, you know that criminals rely on filling in the missing gaps in the memory of their victims who will automatically confabulate, which is caused by brain damage from repeated doses of Devil's Breath over a month or so.

This page is to explain how this works.

What is confabulation?

Confabulation is a kind of memory error in which someone fills in blanks or gaps in their memory by fabricating, misinterpreting, or distorting information without realizing it. When someone confabulates, they are mixing up imagined memories with actual ones. Those who confabulate are not intentionally lying to trick or mislead others; they are simply unaware that their memory is incorrect.

Confabulating is not the same as lying. They are not intentionally or consciously trying to mislead. Instead, even in the face of contradictory facts, they maintain their confidence in the veracity of their memories.

Different forms of Confabulating

When a person confabulates, their mind is trying to conceal a forgotten memory. The individual is unaware that this is taking place.

Two forms of confabulations are distinguished: provoked and spontaneous.

A person engages in provoked confabulation when they fabricate a tale in answer to a particular query. This kind of confabulation is the most prevalent and often manifests in individuals suffering from amnesia or dementia.

Less frequently which occurs is spontaneous confabulation. It happens when someone makes up a tale and says it without seeming to be provoked or motivated.

Confabulation is frequently linked to mental illnesses, brain damage, and memory problems. It has also been noted in healthy individuals who have never experienced brain damage or any kind of neurological or mental illness.

Presenting false information is a part of confabulated memories, but the presenter still thinks the material they are recalling is real.

Confabulation can occur, for instance, when someone with memory gaps is asked to recall and explain specifics of an earlier event. Instead of saying they don't know, the person's imagination conjures up imagined memories of the incident to fill in the gaps. Confabulated memories can be elaborate and very detailed.

One of the causes of confabulation is:

False Memory

A doctored or twisted memory of an incident is called a false memory. These recollections might be wholly made up. On the other hand, they might contain factual components that have been warped by conflicting information or other memory distortions.

There are various reasons why false memories might arise. A common occurrence is the incorrect encoding of memories or their corruption as a result of interference from other memories and information.

Simple memory mistakes and false memories are not the same. Even though everyone has some degree of memory fallibility, false memory is more than just an error; it entails a degree of confidence in the veracity of the recollection.

The distinctive quality of false memories is that they are a clear memory of something that never happened. It is about recalling something we never experienced in the first place, not about forgetting or mistaking specifics of things we have encountered.

What are the causes of false memory?

Misinformation and incorrect attribution of the information's original source are two factors that could cause false memory. The creation of a new memory can sometimes be hampered by prior knowledge and experiences, leading to inaccurate or completely incorrect recollections of events.

The power of suggestion: memory researchers have shown that it is feasible to use suggestion to create false memories. It has also been demonstrated how, with time, these memories can intensify and become more vivid.

Memories start to alter and get warped over time. The initial recollection may occasionally be altered to include fresh knowledge or experiences.

How The Criminals Utilize Confabulation

For as long as they are under the influence of the drug and totally unaware that they are being drugged, a victim of Devil's Breath poisoning is, as I explain in my book, forced into an NREM state that is comparable to sleepwalking.

During this time, their brain is not recording information that would be held in their short-term memory and they are unaware that they are simultaneously suffering brain damage which is causing gaps in their long-term memory which will force the victim to confabulate.

The victim undergoes repeated "sessions" of drugging with Devil's Breath and is interrogated extensively about their life, childhood, friends, and experiences—particularly positive or memorable ones.

The victim will struggle each time due to the damage and rapid memory loss, and he will be "coached" with suggestions, false memories, and provoked confabulation while he makes up stories to fill in the gaps. The information will be repeated over and over again with each session until the victim "remembers" the suggestions and false memories as his actual memories.

You will notice that this has nothing to do with the victim's short-term memory which he would be unable to record or later remember. However, even though he is receiving so-called new information, it is tied in with his long-term memory and he will adhere to it to fill in the gaps.

When the victim is no longer drugged, his memories have been completely altered and warped, but the victim doesn't know it and believes his memories just as you or I would.
